Seeing Red

“What you stop doing is just as important as what you start doing. It’s where quitting crosses over into enlightenment.
Stopping= white space.
Stopping= room to run free and create from the deepest well of being without compromise.
Stopping=more time for what matters most.”

The spring season in San Diego is much more subtle than anywhere I’ve lived and I do miss the sudden shift cooler climates have this time of year, but mostly I feel so lucky to be in the tropical warmth.

I have this innate desire to see the subtle everywhere. I’m always looking for the tiny intimate worlds with in and lately I’ve been drawn to the riot of red that is blooming everywhere.

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I’ve stopped blogging on a regular basis. I keep thinking I’ll catch up and be able to share more of the beauty around me but I’m focused on reshaping my work world. This require lots of time outside which I love, I get to search for materials for the Sea Gem Rings on my daily beach walks and I’ve been preoccupied with growing my dog work. I have 5 puppies that have my heart, I’ve been doing walk & train session with them. It is so rewarding to be part of their progress.

I miss you and am wondering what’s new in your world?

Signs of Spring!?

It just amazes me that about a year has gone by since I decided to pack up and leave winters behind!?

The seasons here have subtle shifts. I feel completely spoiled living in Southern California where almost everyday has felt like the perfect spring days I used to long for. I do miss the visual drama of the four distinct season and I’m surprised by how much I miss the smell of the air changing from fragrant spring to soupy summer, then loamy fall to crisp clean winter.

I’m so glad it’s getting warmer for those who have had such a long cold snowy winter.

I Love It

“Adventure is important in life. Making memories matters… to have a great life you need great memories. Grab any intriguing offer. Say yes to a challenge and to the unknown. Be creative in adding drama and scope to your life. Work at it like a job. Money from effort comes and goes, but effort from imagination and following adventure creates stories that you keep forever. And anyone can do it.” ~ Rob Lowe

Even more than I imagined I would. There are challenges too, being a new comer anywhere has its challenges @!$*:) But, there are so many things about this place that fill me up with deep gratitude.

  • The warm weather – I wake up every morning so amazed to be able to go outside and feel the warmth year round it’s still surreal! I especially feel the gratitude every time I see or hear about the cold snowy rainy yuck that has been happening elsewhere this winter.
  • The Ocean.
  • Family – We have family 20 minutes and 2 hours away, this is huge. It’s been 10 year since I’ve been this close to family and I forgot how nourishing this is.
  • Opportunities/Community – This is the largest community I’ve lived in and yes the traffic can be a bummer but I love the trade-off of having so many people around to connect with.
  • The Hood – The neighborhood we chose, took a long time to find but oh so worth it. I love walking in the middle of the narrow roads chatting with strangers who are no longer strangers.

This grand adventure to create a new life in a new place is coming together. Lots still needs to be sorted, shifted and dealt with, such is life, but I’m so in love with living where I want to live.

Happy Love Day <3

Finding Feathers

I feel a connection with the animal they came from, they give me a sense of freedom and comfort at the same time. I’ve collected my nature bits for years and I love that I finally found a way to share them with you. It’s such a good feeling, that zing thing that happens when I find just the right size & color for the Sea Gem Rings, it just lights me up. The rings I make have opened up connections with so many new people. Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for sharing 🙂

You can click on any of the small images below and it will take you to the shop.

Happy Merry Everything

“What if our religion was each other
If our practice was our life
If prayer, our words.
What if the temple was the earth
If forests were our church
If holy water – the rivers, lakes, and oceans
What if meditation was our relationships
If the Teacher was life
If wisdom was self-knowledge
If love was the center of our being” ~ Ganga White

Sea Gems

“The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea.”               ~ Isak Dinesen

sea gems rings 2 (1) sea gems rings 1 sea gems rings 3

I made a long term commitment the minute I moved across the street from the beach. Each day during my year at the beach, I will touch the sand. It heals & enlivens me.

Having daily beach access has taught me so much about the micro climates along the shore. There is a specific spot I walk to most days to sit on the warm rocks and drink in the negative ions, perhaps staying long enough to meditate for a bit.

I call this sitting spot the Vortex. The water is lulled into the maze of trapezoidish boulders with the greenery behind. This area seems to hold space for stillness combined with expansiveness. When you come visit I’ll take you there and we can sit together and feel the oneness with each other and the Ocean.

When I walk the beach I’m always searching for treasures tossed out of the tide (small stones, shells, shorebird feathers, or pieces of seaweed etc. ) I have a new habit of carefully selecting each tiny treasure for its size and shape to create a little mini work of art to wear on your hand. I never imagined I’d make jewelry, but when I found a smoothed out broken shell that I kept playing with in my hand it dawned on me to make a ring so I could see it and keep it with me all day.

My rings have become talismans— objects that hold specific energies. These treasures are imbued with the energy of the ocean. They ground & support me through out the day. They remind me to slow down, check in and feel the beauty all around and in me.

When I wear mine I feel the tides coming and going, each succession smoothing out the surface a bit more. The ocean takes off the rough edges tumbling everything in and around the shore break. Watching this happen in the eddies and tide pools during low tide is mesmerizing. I slip into that no-time space.

It’s taken me a few months to fine tune the *Sea Gem Rings* and they are now available in my shop. I look forward to sending off these gifts from the sea, and it pulls at my heart each time I let one go, I love them so much.

P.S. The feather rings have been selling quick, I’ll get more in the shop as soon as I can. Feel free to contact me if you want to see a bigger selection today.

Year Round

“No human face is exactly the same in its lines on each side, no leaf perfect in its lobes, no branch in its symmetry. All admit irregularity as they imply change; and to banish imperfection is to destroy expression, to check exertion, to paralyze vitality. All things are literally better, lovelier, and more beloved for the imperfections which have been divinely appointed.” ~John Ruskin

I do miss the beauty and shift of seasons but the warmth & color is soooooo worth it.

I know as we settle and feel more at home in San Diego that I might forget how lucky I am to be able to head outside without a jacket. I don’t want this to become commonplace, I love how magical and weird it feels. It was in the 80’s Thanksgiving Day, how can I be anything but grateful…  and yet sometimes I feel lost and out-of-place!?  When I start feeling a little sideways with my workflow, friendship shifts, family dramas or any drama that can get my mind in a spin, I have to keep remembering to get my butt outside, it usually heals my heart and calms the monkey mind.

Did you know that bougainville’s bloom year round? Aren’t these colored paper like leaves filled with intricate patterns so mesmerizing?
